Angel Fire Investigation Rules Out Natural Causes
Fire investigators have determined that the wildfire on Angel Island State Park was caused by human activity, by ruling out natural ignition sources.  Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the fire and locate those involved.

If you have any information that may help investigators, please contact Fire Marshal Scott Alber at (415) 499-6566.  See the October 16 Press Release...

Angel Fire 100% Contained

Beginning tomorrow, most of the firefighters will be departing the island – some will likely be deployed to new fires in Southern California.

A total of 380 acres were scorched in the Park after the fire erupted Sunday evening just before 9 PM. Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night to protect dozens of historic buildings. Efforts to manage the invasive vegetation over the years contributed significantly to their successful efforts.

Angel Fire 90% Contained
The Angel Fire on Angel Island State Park is now 90% contained, at 380 acres. Full containment is expected by 1800 hours October 14, 2008. Please check the Incident Information Page for the most up-to-date information and press releases.

Angel Fire Perimeter Map - 10/16/08, Revised

Angel Fire 400 Acres
The "Angel Fire" on Angel Island State Park is now 400 acres, and is 75% contained.  The level of containment can be attributed to the fire reaching the San Francisco Bay waters in many places along the island's shoreline, and from hand-constructed fireline and direct suppression of the fire by crews on the island.  More than half of the total land mass of Angel Island has burned.

Low humidities and predicted winds Monday, October 13, 2008 will make full containment difficult, and some fire activity is expected throughout the day, both on uncontrolled fire-line and from "firing" operations where firefighters will deliberately burn-out unburned fuels or use backfiring techniques to stop the spread of the fire.

Angel Island Fire
A vegetation fire was reported on Angel Island at 2100 hrs October 12, 2008.  Firefighting crews and equipment are being shuttled to the island by two State Parks landing craft (LCMs) and fireboats, according to Wildland Fire Pre-Plans and fire protection agreements between State Parks and Marin County Fire Department, CAL Fire and local firefighting agencies.

California State parks has one fire engine on the island, a former Marin County Fire Department type-1 engine, and State Parks personnel are trained to use it.  The Tamalpais Fire Crew, a had-crew comprised of 18 firefighters and a Crew Captain are on the island, in addition to more than 40 engine company firefighters currently fighting the fire or being transported to the island by boat and landing craft.

Please do not contact Marin County Fire Department by telephone at this time due to the extensive incident management efforts in the Emergency Command Center (ECC) at Woodacre.  Updated incident information will be posted online as it becomes available.
